Reflections from the 2024 Future of Construction Summit: RECOR’s Key Takeaways

On 14th-15th May,, members of our engineering team attended the 2024 Future of Construction Summit (FCON24) in Brisbane. As the fourth annual event of its kind, FCON has established itself as a leading platform for industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to discuss the critical challenges and opportunities shaping the future of construction in Australia. This year’s summit did not disappoint, providing invaluable insights into policy reform, innovation, sustainability, and technological advancements that are steering our industry forward.

Why Brisbane? The Perfect Backdrop

Held at the Royal International Convention Centre, this year’s summit moved to Brisbane—a location chosen to highlight the transformative infrastructure boom in South East Queensland. With billions of dollars invested in major projects across the region, it was the perfect backdrop for construction leaders, financiers, and technology companies to come together, form partnerships, and discuss the future of Australia’s construction landscape.

Some Key Takeaways

The summit covered a broad range of topics that align closely for us, and our team engaged deeply with the discussions, particularly those on sustainability and digital transformation. Here are some of the key themes that resonated with us:

Pioneering Net Zero: Sustainable Practices for the Future

One of the most impactful sessions delved into the steps the industry must take to move towards net zero emissions. More than ever, there is urgency in integrating sustainable practices, from using low-carbon materials to optimising energy usage during construction. We left with a renewed sense of purpose to implement innovative green solutions across our projects.

The Digital Revolution: The ‘Digital Toolbox’ in Construction

As technology continues to reshape construction, discussions about the ‘digital toolbox’ were particularly compelling. Industry experts explored how digital design, automation, and data-driven solutions are enhancing efficiency and precision on construction sites. For our team, this underscored the importance of integrating digital tools into our processes, not only to streamline operations but to deliver superior outcomes for our clients.

Navigating Supply Chain Challenges: Strategies for Resilience

Another major topic was the impact of global supply chain constraints and rising costs of materials. Panelists highlighted the need for adaptability and collaboration among all stakeholders to navigate these challenges. At RECOR, we understand these pressures firsthand, and the strategies shared during the summit gave us valuable insights into how we can continue to offer reliable, efficient solutions for our clients despite these external factors.

Our Takeaways

Attending FCON24 was a timely reminder of the importance of staying agile and proactive in a rapidly evolving industry. The summit was not just a chance to absorb information but an opportunity to connect with like-minded professionals committed to innovation and sustainable growth. Our team returned energised and with actionable insights to apply to our ongoing and upcoming projects, ensuring that RECOR remains at the forefront of delivering efficient, impactful, and sustainable engineering solutions.

We look forward to innovating and collaborating with our partners, and contributing to the exciting wave of projects transforming Queensland and beyond.
